Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.

He defended 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
